The electrical conductivity of electromagnetic insulating coatings can be increased by the addition of electrically conductive fillers. Antimony doped tin oxide (ATO) nanoparticles can be introduced as conductive fillers because they combine a good electrical conductivity with optical transparency. To take full advantage of ATO nanoparticles as conductive fillers, they must be dispersed well in the coatings and adhered well to the matrix resin of the coatings. Therefore, the ATO nanoparticles were organically modified with 3-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane and 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, respectively. The effect of the organic modification of ATO nanoparticles on the improvement of the electrically conductivity of the coatings based on a UV-curable resin system was studied. The modification of ATO nanoparticles was confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and transmission electron microscope. |
