The mercapto groups were introduced on the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) to immobilize GNPs via the covalent Au-S bonds. Hence, gold nanoparticles (GNPs) stabilized by trisodium citrate and sodium borohydride (NaBH4) were covalently deposited on 4-mercaptobenzoyl-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MB-MWNTs) to form GNP/MWNT composites. The morphology and properties of the resultant composites were studied by TEM, UV-vis, XPS and etc. The XPS spectra showed binding energies of Au4f on the surface of GNP/MWNT composites, indicating that GNPs were successfully grafted onto MB-MWNTs. Cyclic voltammetry was used to study the electrical properties of MB-MWNT and GNP/MWNT composites, showing that GNP/MWNT composite had a superior electrocatalytic activity. |
