Thermal & Mechanical Properties of Poly(lactic acid)/ PBAT Blends with Coupling Agent |

Recently PLA-PBAT blend is used for biodegradable plastic bag. However the lack of elongation at break still remains a problem. In this study, coupling agent improves compatibility Between the two materials and elongation at break. As a catalyst, Ethanol amine makes the PLA/PBAT blend transesterification reaction and a coupling agent of the PLA/PBAT blend. When compared the existing PLA/PBAT blend, coupling agent Tg of PBAT shifts to higher temperature. The more contents of ethanol amine, the MFI of PLA, PBAT and coupling agent is increased. This means that Mw decrease by chain scission reaction. The modified blend (added coupling agent) increase three-times a elongation at break than the existing PLA/PBAT blend. |
