Characterization ofkeratin/PLGAhybrid scaffold for tissue engineered articular cartilage |

Biodegradable keratins have been widely used to construct scaffolds for cartilage tissue engineering. We examined the effect of Keratin/poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA) scaffold for chondrogenesis. Keratin/PLGA scaffolds were prepared by solvent casting/salt leaching method. All scaffolds were characterized using SEM. Cell proliferation activity was measured by MTT test. Scaffold mechanical strength, histology, gene expression, sulphated-glycosaminoglycan(sGAG) and collagen contents analyses were performed to elucidate in vitro cartiliage development. This study suggests that in vitro chondrogenesis was improved in PLGA scaffolds containing keratin. This research was supported by SCRC(SC4100) and KMOHW(0405-BO01-0204-0006). |
