Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) are promising materials for application as electrolytes and separators in secondary lithium and lithium-ion batteries. For advanced small-sized, high-density cells, it is expected that an electrolyte material should have both increased mechanical stiffness and increased lithium ionic conductivities. Cross-linking can improve the mechanical strength of SPEs but results in lower conductivities. In this regard, increasing mechanical properties can be achieved from rigid chain backbone materials and increasing lithium ionic conductivities could be achieved by attaching oligo(ethylene oxide) side-chains. In this study, substituted celluloses with oligo(ethylene oxide) chains were synthesized, and their thermal and mechanical properties, and lithium ion conductivities of thin films were characterized. |
