Herein, 1,2-ethanedithiol (EDT) was doped on nano-fibrous poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT NF) to overcome the charge transfer limitation between polymer counter electrode (CE) and polysulfide redox mediator in quantum dot sensitized solar cells. EDT helps not only increased the crystallinity of PEDOT NF by physical doping, but also changed the molecular conformation from benzoid to quinoid structure through the chemical doping, which were characterized by wide-angle X-ray scattering, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Therefore, EDT-doped PEDOT NF CE showed almost 1.5 times higher conductivity than the bare one. Furthermore, the compatibility between polysulfide and PEDOT NF was also improved to a large extent. As a result, the charge transfer resistance between the polymer CE and polysulfide electrolyte was reduced. Such multiple effects result in over 3% energy conversion efficiency, which are almost twice, compared to CE based on bare PEDOT NF (1.64%). |
