The present study covers applications of CAE analysis for injection molding of optical parts in order to predict their process-induced defects. The first defect is deformations of the lens surfaces which can be predicted from the CAE analysis of injection molding. The second defect is the flow-induced anisotropy and birefringence, which can be estimated through the residual-stress calculation. The third one is inhomogeneous distribution of refractive index due to non-uniform shrinkage of the injection-molded parts. Various numerical analyses are then applied to consider injection-molding effects on the optical performance of injection-molded plastic parts. |
