Electromechanical actuation behaviors of a SEBS elastomer with various electrodes |

Electromechanical actuation behaviors of a SEBS elastomer with various electrodes have been investigated in order to find the effect of the electrode. The insulate film of SEBs poly-(styrene-b-ethylbutylene) or SEBs-g-MA (SEBs-g-maleic anhydride) was used as a dielectric elastomer. Various carbon based electrode consisting of a carbon based filler and a polymer binder, were coated on the bottom and top of the film by using a spray coating and a spin coating method. The conductivity and the morphology of the electrode were observed by using SEM and laser-sensors, respectively. Electromechanical strain of a SEBS elastomer was significantly influenced by the conductivity and the flexibility of the electrodes. The surface roughness of the electrode also influenced on the electromechanical stability such as an electric shortage. |
