제목 | Cure Behavior of Diene Monomers as Self-healing Agent for Polymer Composite |
초록 | For effective healing of microcracks in damaged polymer composite, physical properties of healing agent during and after cure are considered to be very important. In this study, we investigated two different diene monomers [dicyclopentadiene (DCPD), 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene (ENB)] and their mixtures as self-healing agent for polymeric composites by means of DMA and DSC. As more simulative condition of healing agent in the real polymeric composite flowing into cracks and subsequently curing, an equivalent mixture of epoxy resin and amine curing agent with Grubbs’s catalyst was coated on plate and cured at 40oC for 12 hrs. Storage modulus (G’) and tanδ data of the monomer during curing were obtained on the epoxy-coated plate from DMA. DSC was employed to examine the glass transition temperature and exotherm from residual reaction for cured samples taken after DMA tests. We found that ENB accelerates cure reaction greatly with much smaller amounts of catalyst. The optimum ratio of DCPD/ENB and amount of catalyst to be used in healing damaged polymer composite will be presented.
