제목 | Thermal Analysis of Diene Monomers as Self-healing Agent for Damage Repair |
초록 | For effective healing of microcracks in damaged polymer materials, physical properties of healing agent during and after cure are considered to be very important. In the previous work, two different diene monomers [dicyclopentadiene (DCPD), 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene (ENB)] and their mixtures as potential self-healing agent for polymeric materials were investigated isothermally. In this study, the samples were isothermally cured for 2 h at room temperature (RT) and then two successive temperature scans from RT to 205oC were made by means of DMA and DSC. The first scan was made to remove residual reaction and second scan was to measure the glass transition temperature (Tg) of cured samples. Exothermic reaction and glass transition temperature from DSC and storage modulus (G’) and tanδ from DMA curves were compared. It was found that some samples with relatively slow reaction rate showed decrease in modulus above 40oC due to the glass transition temperature and subsequent increase thereafter due to the residual reaction. There were big differences in Tg for fully cured samples.
