This paper deals with tensile characteristics for the plastic composite used in an Instrument panel. Three types of plastic, which are used in the instrument panel, were tested. Tensile tests for three kinds of plastics used for automotive interior trims were performed varying temperatures and strain rates, and the true stress - true strain relations were obtained for each cases. As the strain rate increases, the tensile strength and the elastic modulus increase, and the elongation and the Poisson's ratio decrease, but the effect of the strain rate on the Poisson's ratio is very small. As the temperature increases, the tensile strength and the elastic modulus decrease, and the elongation and the Poisson's ratio increase. To verify the stress-strain relations at high strain rates, drop tests were performed for polypropylene specimens and the results were compared with those of the finite element analysis. |
