Carbon isotopes with nanometer feature sizes are attracting much interest in recent years, including fullerenes, nanotubes, nanofibers, and graphene. A variety of methods to produce the carbon nanomaterials have been reported so far. Herein, I will introduce several good examples of fabricating the carbon nanomaterials using versatile polymer precursors. Simply, the synthesis of suitable polymer precursors, followed by their carbonization allows the production of carbon nanomaterials with the desired structure and composition. Carbon nanospheres, nanofibers, and nanotubes with unique chemical and physical properties were obtained using polymer precursors that are comparable with the resulting carbon nanomaterials in size and shape. |
