Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have unique properties which make them attractive for different engineering applications. In this study, CNTs were functionalized through ‘grafting from’ method. Initiating sites for grafting were not introduced to the surface of CNTs directly, but introduced by quaternization of amine group in polymeric dispersant. Poly(quaternized 2-dimethylamino ethyl methacrylate-co-Styrene), poly(QDMAEMA-co-St) was prepared by quaternization of poly(DMAEMA-co-St) with p-(chloromethyl)benzyl 2-bromoisobutylate in order to introduce initiating site for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The functionalized CNTs were dispersed and observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM). Raman spectroscopy was carried out to confirm the defect of functionalized CNTs. |
