Recently, carbon dots (CDs) including carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and graphene quantum dots (GQDs) have received great academicals and industrial interests due to their unique and fascinating optoelectrical performance together with their environmental safety. Therefore, CDs have been widely exploited to replacing the traditional inorganic-based quantum dots (QDs) in many applications. While much significant progress on the control of the optoelectrical structures of CDs, CDs preserve many advantages compared with the rivaling QDs in the aspects of physiological safety, less environmental harmfulness, mass production, easy of surface engineering, etc. While initial applications of CDs have been focused on the bioapplications due to the strong fluorescence and excellent physiological dispersion, dramatically increasing numbers of researches have been accumulated on the optical and electronic applications of CQDs and GQDs. |
