High temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells (HT-PEMFC) offer several advantages, such as low CO catalyst poisoning, heat management, high diffusion rate, and cost. In general, sulfonated hydrocarbon polymers, organic-inorganic composite, acid-base polymers and blend polymers have been studied to fulfill the key requirements of HT-PEMFC. In particular, our goal is to improve proton conductivity of hydrocarbon membranes at high temperature by comparing with phosphoric acid doped PBI membranes. In this study, novel sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymers containing high water retention properties are synthesized, and their membranes were analyzed by water uptake, proton conductivity and single cell performance. |
