Recently, much attention has been paid to preparation and characterization of nanowires and hollow fibers of metal oxides with diameter ranging from nanometers to micrometers, due to their interesting optical, electrical and mechanical properties. For these purposes templating approaches have been used widely. In the present work metal oxide fibers like PdO, GeO2, Nb2O5 and V2O5 have been prepared by electrospinning technique. Using the mixture of metal oxide sol and supporting polymer solution with suitable viscosity produces the hybrid fiber mats with organic and inorganic precursors. When the hybrid material is subjected for the calcinations to remove the organic material and crystallize the meal oxide, leaving the metal oxide fibers. Depending upon the cacination temperature, oxide fibers with various morphologies with different crystalline phase have been obtained. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray diffraction methods have been used to confirm the microstructure and crystallinity of the fiber.
