Light-Responsive Surfaces with Controllable Wetting Behavior Based on Inorganic/Organic Hybrid Polymer Coatings Incorporating Spiropyran Dyes |

Inorganic/organic hybrid polymers combining structural inorganic oxides with functional properties of organic polymers have proven to be an excellent approach for the fabrication of functional and responsive surfaces. In the present study, hybrid polymers consisting of polymethylsilsesquioxane (PMSSQ) blocks and polypentafluorophenyl acrylate (PPFPA) blocks were synthesized based on RAFT polymerization. These hybrid materials are promising coating material because they combine two essential factors: (i) strong adhesion and (ii) versatile functionalization. Via a simple spin-coating, annealing and dipping procedure, stable functionalized films were obtained and by the conversion of the PPFPA with amino-spiropyrans -- which are known for their reversibly switching of dipole moments by UV and visible light -- photo-responsive coatings were generated. |
