Macroporous carbon fiber scaffold was prepared by three-step method: electrospinning of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber on water, subsequent lyophilization of PAN/water and carbonization of lyophilized PAN to convert PAN fiber into carbon fiber with graphitic surface. The fiber-to-fiber distance inside carbon fiber scaffold was controlled by adjusting PAN-to-water ratio. Conversion of PAN polymer fiber to carbon fiber were verified by SEM,XPS, Raman, XRD analyses and subsequent in-vivo and in-vitro test on carbon fiber scaffold exhibited that the scaffold induces bone regeneration without additional use of BMP-2. |
