Role of ion conducting polymer electrolytes for fuel cell systems |
초록 |
Ion conduction in the polymer electrolytes plays an important role in the performance of fuel cell systems. Ion exchangeable groups such as sulfonic acid, carboxylic acid, phosphoric acid, etc. are attached to main polymer chains which can be fluorinated hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon. The ion exchangeable groups can be directly combined to the main chains or with a long side chain. Various types of ion conducting polymer electrolytes have totally different morphology in solvating-solvent swelled status. In general, the more hydrophilic and hydrophobic segregation between ion exchangeable groups and main chains, respectively, is distinct, the higher ionic conductivity is achieved at similar ion exchange capacity or water uptake. It is well known that the segregation is highly dependent on the chemical structure of ion conducting polymer electrolytes. In addition, the water uptake of polymer electrolytes should be kept as low as possible due to their dimensional stability. |
