Polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEMs) can be fabricated onto charged melamine formaldehyde (MF) colloidal particles by stepwise adsorption of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes via layer-by-layer self-assembly technique, referred to as a PEM-coated particles (PEMPs). Inorganics synthesis within PEMPs can be carried out by loading precursors into PEMs, followed by a chemical treatment. Heat treatment of the resulting particles leads to formation of hollow structures consisting of SiO2 or iron oxide only. After incorporation of ionic polymers into the capsules, such capsules could be utilized as special nanoreactor for synthesizing tailored nanomaterials with controllable properties. Size of hollow structures can be also tuned by varying the template sizes, which means that it is able to control the reactions in confined environment. If this can be achieved, it might open up a new route to the development of tunable nanoreactor, which could control a variety of chemical reaction. |
