제목 Preparation and Characterization of Silica Nano-particle Reinforced Poly (ethylene 2, 6-naphthalate)
초록 Silica nano-particle reinforced poly (ethylene 2, 6-naphthalate) (PEN) composites were melt-blended to improve mechanical and physical properties of the PEN. Compared to the pristine PEN, the melt viscosity of silica nano-particle reinforced PEN composites was decreased because the silica nano-particle could modify rheological properties of the polymer matrix. Tensile modulus and strength were improved, while tensile strain and toughness were decreased. The integral procedural decomposition temperature (IPDT) and initial decomposition temperature (IDT) values calculated from TGA chart revealed that the thermal stabilities of the composites were improved with the silica contents. Non-isothermal crystallization behavior and spherulite growth of silica nano-particle reinforced PEN composites were analyzed by Ozawa’s theory and image analysis. Calculated Ozawa exponents exhibited 3-dimensional spherulite growths, and the crystallization rate function was increased with the silica contents. Crystallization exothermic peak shifted to higher temperature direction, and the overall crystallization time and crystallization activation energy were decreased with increasing silica content. Conclusively, the silica nano-particles acted as a nucleating agent in the PEN matrix, and the nucleating activities, which indicated the activities of the filler to the polymer matrix, were revealed that the fumed silica nano-particles had a good nucleating effect on the PEN.
