Biomass Production of a Green Microalga, Tetraselmis sp. MBEyh01L, using Sodium Bicarbonate as Carbon Source for Wastewater Treatment |
초록 |
Microalgae have received much attentions for their ability to remove dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus in eutrophic wastewater. Sodium bicarbonate is by-product from CCS technologies and can be used as inorganic carbon source for microalgae cultivation with its advantages of high water solubility and high carbon utilization efficiency. In this study, we cultivated a microalga, Tetraselmis sp. MBEyh01L, using sodium bicarbonate used instead of aeration with CO2 gas in 5 L continuously stirred tank reactors (CSTRs) with modified f/2-Si medium. As the results, 20 mM bicarbonate fed-batch cultivation showed the highest overall biomass productivity of 0.60 g/L/d and high carbon utilization efficiency of 81% could be attained by pH control. This result indicated that algal biomass productivity using bicarbonate as carbon source can be enhanced to conventional CO2 bubbling culture with high carbon utilization efficiency by controlling pH and fed-batch culture mode. |
