This study mainly investigated the electrical heating behavior, and electrical properties of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-coated basalt fiber reinforced epoxy composites. We developed the novel and facile coating method of MWCNT on the basalt fibers using anionic surfactant. The MWCNT was coated on the basalt fiber by dip-dry coating. The number of dip-dry coating cycle was varied from 0 time to 10 times. Interestingly, the electrical conductivity of epoxy composites with MWCNT-coated basalt fibers increased significantly with increasing dip-dry coating cycles. Additionally, we observed the electrical heating behaviors of a series of epoxy composites with different coating cycles. The composites with above 2 cycles of basalt fiber exhibited excellent electrical heating performance in terms of rapid temperature responsiveness, high steady-state maximum temperature, high electric power efficiency, and stable operational stability under different applied voltages.
