Micro injection molded Polylactide/carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposites with high surface quality were achieved by controlling processing conditions which promoted complete filling of polymer melt in the mold. The effects of CNT on the surface properties, crystallization, thermal behavior, and biodegradation of micro injection molded polylactide nanocomposites have been evaluated. The analysis of crystallinity and thermal behavior indicated that the CNT led to the unique α’ to α crystal transition of polylactide, resulting in improvement of surface modulus and hardness, measured by nanoindentation technique. The interaction parameter between polylactide and CNT has been characterized by using equilibrium melting point depression method. Furthermore, the effects of CNT on the activation energy for thermal degradation and biodegradation rate of polylactide have been also investigated.
