Facilitated olefin transport membrane consists of carriers dispersed in a polymeric matrix, where the carriers interact with olefin specifically and reversibly from olefin/paraffin mixtures and therefore is effective in improving the separation performance for olefin/paraffin mixtures. Ag nanoparticles are commonly used as carriers for facilitated olefin transport, and are simply synthesized in the presence of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) as both a reducing agent and a capping agent. In this study, a new simple synthetic method of Ag NPs is developed using monomeric 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-pyrrolidone, and the as-prepared Ag NPs were dispersed in PEBAX® 2533 to evaluate the separation performance for propylene/paraffin mixtures, expecting the improvement in the permeance while maintaining high selectivity unchanged. |
