The influence of montmorillonite clay and organo clay on the vulcanization kinetics of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber(NBR) was investigated by cure rheometer and differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) under dynamic and isothermal conditions. The vulcanization curves showed that the organo clay behaved as an effective vulcanizing agent, accelerating the vulcanization reaction of the rubber compound. The cure reaction was analysed by autocatalytic model and the cure parameter such as order of reaction, rate constant, etc were calculated using non-linear regression analysis. The activation energy of the vulcanization process, calculated by curemeter and DSC techniques. Displayed reduction for activation energy for organoclay added nanocomposites. It was inferred that the organoclay favored the cure process of the rubber compound. While strength properties of NBR/organo clay nanocomposites were improved, that was no significant changes in the NBR/unmodified clay composites. |
