Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a semi-crystalline biocompatible polymer with high mechanical property, biocompatibility, thermal resistance and chemical stability. PEEK has been a promising material to replace metals in orthopedic implant market. In this study, PEEK composite was fabricated with multi fillers of graphene oxide (GO), carbon fiber (CF) and hydroxyapatite (HA) using suspension blending to find out effects on mechanical properties and biocompatibility. Moreover, nano-sized fillers of GO and HA were modified using silane coupling agent in order to reduce aggregation and to increase interfacial adhesion with PEEK matrix. Moreover, PEEK composite was reinforced with GO and CF due to their high mechanical properties. Injection molded sample was tested with universal test machine. Biocompatibility was examined by observing growth of apatite layer on the surface of PEEK composite, immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF). Morphology was examined using scanning electron microscope. |
