Nanodiamond/gold nanocomposite is known to possess local plasmonic energy absorption, resulting in surface enhanced Raman effects, which can be exploited for imaging agent in cellular and in vivo biomedical application. Here, hyaluronic acid-coated nanodiamond/gold rod nanocomposites were synthesized with tunable light absorptive wavelength and enhanced local plasmonic effect. Energy absorbing nanodiamond provided the platform that electron of gold nanorods can be transferred through amorphous sp2 carbon layer on the nanodiamond. Hyaluronic acid-coated nanodiamond/gold rod nanocomposites with tunable light absorption wavelength at NIR region investigated as photoacoustic contrast imaging agent. Intratumoral administration of the nanodiamond/AuNR to tumor-bearing mice, which had an absorption wavelength at 800nm, showed significantly higher PA signal amplitude in the tumor than in mice injected with nanodiamond/AuNR with 650nm or bare AuNR with the same UV absorption wavelength, 800 nm. |
