Photocatalytic decomposition of various pollutants with poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(acrylic acid)/TiO2/graphene oxide nanocomposite hydrogels |

The photocatalyst nanocomposite hydrogels were prepared by incorporating anatase TiO2 and graphene oxide (GO) via in situ polymerization of the pH-responsive poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/poly(acrylic acid) (PAAc) hydrogels. The photocatalytic efficiency needs to be improved for the removal of various pollutants in aqueous condition. To improve the photocatalytic properties of PVA/PAAc/TiO2 nanocomposite hydrogels, GO was introduced as an additive for both preventing recombination of hole-electron from TiO2 and increasing the adsorption of pollutants on GO. The photocatalytic activity of PVA/PAAc/TiO2/GO nanocomposite hydrogels was evaluated by measuring the variations in UV absorbance of various model pollutants such as phenol, acidic, and basic dyes. The photocatalytic activity of nanocomposite hydrogel was improved for various pollutants by incorporating GO uniformly in hydrogel matrix. |
