Nanoscale Mechanical Characterization of Polyvinylidene Fluoride and Poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) Thin Films |

Nanoscle mechanical properties of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and PVDF copolymer thin film with 11.30 and 16.99 mol% hexafluoropropylene (HFP) have been investigated on the basis of elastic modulus and hardness. Polymers, which feature similar molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution, were prepared by a solution radical process with a low temperature free radical initiator. To observe mechanical properties of 1μm thickness polymer film, spin-coated films on glass slide were crystallized by slow cooling from 200 ℃. From results of ATR-IR, crystalline phase of polymer film were decreased with HFP contents, respectively. Furthermore, copolymer with 16.99 mol% HFP appeared properties of amorphous and elastomeric polymer. Consequently, Young’s modulus and hardness of copolymer film was decreased with HFP contents. |
