Nano-composites (NC) and hybrids are attractive materials to many researcher owing to their superior properties such as, mechanical properties, nonflammable property, gas barrier property, and electrical property etc. Dispersity of inorganic materials in organic materials matrix is one of the important parameter to make NC. Hybrids are commonly defined as materials in which association of organic and inorganic species is at a molecular level via iono-covalent bonds. In this study, three kinds of inorganic materials such as calcium silicate, sodium silicate, and potassium silicate, and four kinds of organic materials as water-soluble polymers, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) (PSMA), poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) (PEA), and poly(ethylene-co-oxide) (PEO). Both silicate glasses and their pair water-soluble polymer were dissolved in water. We investigated characteristics of each silicate glasses to find the possibility of hybrids using by XRD, EDX-SEM, FT-IR, TGA, and Zeta-potential analysis. Also transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was employed to directly observe the dispersity of silicate glasses in water-soluble polymers matrix. Throughout this study, we tried to confirm the compatibility between water-soluble polymer and silicate glasses. |
