Among printing techniques, researches have been focused on the inkjet printing because polymer devices fabricated by the inkjet printing technique have the advantages of simple fabrication, compatibility with various substrates, availability of non-contact and no-mask patterning, and low cost. In this study, we polymerized poly-(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) directly on flexible substrates by printing EDOT as a monomer and ferric p-toluenesulfonic acid (FTS) as oxidant simultaneously using a commercial inkjet printer (piezoelectric drop-on-demand) without prior mold tooling and masks. For the best inkjet printing performance, the solution properties, its viscosity and surface tension should match those of the ink used in the commercial printer. We investigated various properties of the PEDOT pattern such as optical transmittance, surface resistivity and morphology. Surface resistivity of the PEDOT pattern as low as about 150Ω/□ with 80% transmittance at 500nm. |
