Recently, nanofiber-based drug delivery system has received great attention because it can provide the increased drug release due to the high surface area to volume ratio. One major challenge of this system is to minimize initial burst of the drug and prolong release time. First, Nanofibers based on polycarprolactone (PCL) were prepared by electrospinning and then, poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) hydrogel microstructures incorporating nanofibers were fabricated using photolithography. Finally, immersing resultant micropatternd nanofibers within organic solvent dissolved only bare PCL nanofibers. Drug release test revealed that hydrogel-entrapped nanofiber could reduce the initial burst of drug and realized prolonged drug release because hydrogel acted as an additional diffusion barrier. And glucose sensors based on hydrogel are capable of converting Amplex Red molecules to fluorescent resorufin. As a result, hydrogel microparticles are multifunctional of sensor and controlled drug release. |
