Boron-based crosslinking agents (LBC and HBC) having anion trapping boron moieties and ion conducting poly(ethylene glycol) have been synthesized and a series of semi-interpenetrating polymer network (semi-IPN) membranes containing boron-based crosslinking agents (LBC or HBC) and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) with various composition were prepared by UV cross-linking to use as polymer matrix of gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) of lithium-ion batteries. Boron-based crosslinking agents were found to improve ionic conductivity due to low Tg, reduction in PVDF crystallinity, and hydrophilicity. Furthermore, anion-trapping boron moieties increase lithium transference number of the GPEs, leading to alleviate concentration polarization. As a result, the GPEs using boron-based crosslinking agents exhibit enhanced cycle performance compared to liquid electrolyte. |
