Diffusion pathway analysis via chemical potential diagram in Si-C-Ni-Cr |

The kinetic features governing interface reactions have been investigated to identify the operating mechanisms and diffusion characteristics. With respect to the contact metal components, the reaction characteristics were identified by two separated modes - formation of carbides and silicide, and formation of silicides and free carbon. The analysis was confirmed experimentally by diffusion annealing of SiC / Ni and SiC / Cr. The diffusion pathways of both reactions were examined in terms of a chemical potential framework. Analytical reaction modes representing SiC reactions and a strategy to control reaction pathway are discussed. |
