Polymer solar cells have been recognized as one of the viable candidates for next generation solar cells because of their potential for low-cost plastic solar modules. However, the power conversion efficiency of polymer solar cells should be further improved for commercialization though the recent cell efficiency reached ~8 %. We need to pay attention to the intrinsically less stable feature of organic materials than inorganic materials. However, organic materials have a strong advantage in terms of thin film formation as well as flexibility. If combining the individual advantages of inorganic and organic materials, the stability of polymer solar cells can be improved. Accordingly, we have developed functional silicon nanoparticle derivatives which are soluble in organic solvents. In this work, we fabricated hybrid-type polymer solar cells by adding the functional silicon nanoparticles to the polymer bulk heterojunction films. The performance of solar cells will be discussed together. |
