The ability of DNA to self-asemble into desired nanostructures has attracted a great interest. Here we report on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between chromophores assembled with DNA as a template. Three chromophores, JOE, TAMRA, and TexasRed, are used because their excitation and emissin spectra are well overlapped. Single strand DNA molecules conjugated with the chromophores are self-assembled onto its complementary matrix DNA strand with pricise distance and spceific order. The FRET efficiencies and antenna effects of the self-assembled chromophores in aqueous milieu were investigated. Further studies are underway to investigate the impact of microenvironments on the FRET between the chromophores assembled with DNA. |
