Improvement of fibroblast differentiation via surface modification of chitosan-based hydrogel |

Chitosan is a natural biodegradable polymer derived from chitin by deacetylation. Chitosan has been widely used as tissue substitutes or wound dressings due to its excellent biocompatibility. In this study, we prepared three-dimensional chitosan hydrogel for the use of soft tissue substitutes. In order for the improvement of the hydrogel, we performed surface modification using organic/inorganic composite. The mechanical strength of the hydrogel was reinforced via cross-linking using polyvinyl alcohol. The physical and geometrical natures were characterized using various analytical methods and biological functionalities were examined by cell assays using fibroblast.
