p-Type organic semiconductors, namely, derivatives of pentacene, rubrene, and anthracene, have attracted a great deal of attention for applications in high-performance organic field effect transistors (OFETs). However, the deposition methods for the crystalline thin films of these moleculesunder vacuum or inert atmospheric conditionssuffer severe limitations during large-scale device fabrication, due to the complexity of the process. Organic semiconductors such as small molecules and polymers that are soluble in organic solvents facilitate the use of conventional low-cost spin-coating or drop-casting techniques for organic electronic device fabrication. New anthracene-based conjugated molecules have been synthesized through Stille or Sonogashira coupling reaction. In the crystalline solid state, they do show unique molecular aggregation behavior which can aid to form mesoscopic or microscopic objects. The semiconducting properties of the two molecules were evaluated in OFETs. |
