Poly(arylene ether ketone)s (PAEKs) were synthesized via direct step-growth polycondensation with pendant quaternary ammonium groups. 2-Bromoethylamine is used to react with PAEKs that contains carboxylic acid groups activated. Then, the quaternization method is used to develop pendant quaternary ammonium groups by using Triethylamine and 1-Methylimidazole, alkalinization method is used to develop the membrane. As expectation, anion conductivity is an important characteristic of membrane. The chemical reaction for PAEKs and activation are determined by 1H NMR. FT-IR, DSC will characterize the quaternary ammonium poly(arylene ether ketone)s hydroxide (QAPAEKs-OH) and thermal properties of the membranes, respectively. For applications in alkaline fuel cells, the anion conductivity , water uptake, ion-exchange capacity (IEC), mechanical properties of the QAPAEKs-OH membranes were measured. QAPAEKs-OH will promise as a new materials for alkaline fuel cells. |
