To directly use hydrocarbon fuel without a reforming process, a new microstructure for Ni/Sm0.2Ce0.8O2-δ (Ni/SDC) anodes, in which the Ni surface of the anode is covered with a porous Sm0.2Ce0.8O2-δ thin film, was investigated as an alternative to conventional Ni/YSZ anodes. A Ni-based anode in a solid oxide fuel cell is likely poisoned by the part per million level of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), leading to critical degradation in the cell performance. In this research, the effects of the Sm0.2Ce0.8O2-δ coating through the Ni/YSZ anode pore wall surface, used to improve the anode’s H2S tolerance and carbon coking, are studied. |
