Electrochemical characterization and interfacial analysis of high-voltage electric double layer capacitors employing ionic liquid-based electrolytes |
초록 |
Electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs) have been considered promising energy storage device with high specific power and long cycle life. However, the market for EDLCs is currently limited due to their low energy density. Higher operating voltage of EDLCs is necessary to improve their energy density, however, the high cut-off voltage is limited by the electrochemical stability of the organic electrolytes, which have poor electrochemical stability. In this respect, ionic liquids can be promising electrolytes for high voltage EDLCs because of their superior electrochemical stability. In this study, ionic liquid-based electrolytes were applied to the high voltage EDLCs over a voltage range of 1.0-3.2 V. The surface analysis of electrodes was also carried out to investigate the degradation products due to the irreversible decomposition of the electrolytes. |
