제목 Core-Centered and Disordered Gold Nanocluster Arrays for the Sensitivity Enhancement of Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensors
초록 Surface plasmons (SPs) are the collective oscillation of the electron cloud in conduction band at the interface of noble metal nanostructures and dielectrics. The resonance occurs when the wavevector of the incident light matches with that of the oscillating SPs. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) gives rise to the evanescent electromagnetic field confined in nanoscale at the interface. With these backgrounds, SPR-based sensors have been developed and exploited in molecular biology. It is possible to observe the change of refractive index of the medium in real-time and label-free manner. However, the performance of SPR sensors still needs to be improved for the small analyte detection.
In this regard, incorporation of plasmonic nanomaterials on sensor chip surface is one of the most promising strategies to enhance the sensitivity maintaining label-free detection format. Coupling between LSPR of Au NPs and propagating SPR of SPR sensor chip (Au film) can amplify electromagnetic field. Herein, the morphology effect of Au nanocluster (NC) arrays on SPR sensitivity was investigated based on two different configurations. Au NC arrays were fabricated using PS-b-P2VP block-copolymer (BCP) inverse micelles as a template. Core-centered Au NC was obtained by immersing the PS-b-P2VP film in Au NP colloidal solution and disordered Au NC was prepared by sequential immersion of BCP film in acidic solution and in Au NP solution. Streptavidin sensing was carried out on the as-prepared Au NC-Au film SPR sensor chips. Core-centered array showed 7.7 sensitivity enhancement factor (SEF) and disordered array showed higher SEF of 8.9, compared with bare Au film.
