To confirm nanoparticle size effect, various sizes of the silica nanoparticles were synthesized via sol-gel method. Moreover, polyvinylpyrrolidone-g-silica (PVP-g-silica) was synthesized via coupling agent and then their blends with polysulfone (PSf) were used for the fabrication of ultrafiltration membranes having high hydrophilic properties. Ultrafiltration membranes were prepared from the blends of PSf and PVP-g-silica via phase inversion process, and then their performance was explored. PSf formed miscible blend with PVP-g-silica containing PVP-g-silica from 1 to 5wt%. Membranes prepared from the miscible blends of PSf and smaller PVP-g-silica exhibited better performance in solute rejection and water flux than those prepared from PSf/bigger PVP-g-silica. The effects of PVP-g-silica size on the membrane performance were explored by analyzing membrane morphology and contact angle. |
