Mesoporous Silica-Based Immunotherapy |

Immunotherapy has been recognized for decades as a promising therapeutic method for cancer treatment. To enhance host immune responses against cancer, antigen‐presenting cells or T cells needs to be activated using appropriate immunomodulatory agents. In this talk, our recent findings on application of injectable mesoporous silica particles as a platform for cancer immunotherapy will be introduced. The microsized mesoporous silica particles could be spontaneously stacked after injection into body and generate 3-dimensional structure with interparticular pores where a high number of DCs are recruted. The subsequent delivery of nanosized vaccines carrying protein antigen or antigen-coding DNAs to the recruited DCs provoke antigen-specific T cell responses and suppress tumor growth. These findings suggest that mesoporous silica could be used as an efficient vaccine platform for cancer immunotherapy. |
