Preparation of Micro-Spinbars with a Simple Fluidic Device for Micro-scale Fluid Mixing |

We have demonstrated the fabrication of gelatin micro-spinbar containing magnetic nanoparticles using a simple fluidic device and the micro-scale fluid mixing for a small device such as lap-on-a-chip. The unique feature of sol-gel transition of gelatin made it possible to fabricate the micro-spinbar with various aspect ratio because gelatin droplets maintained their original shape in cold collection phase during water evaporation. The simple fluidic device allows precise control over the dimensions of gelatin micro-spinbars. In addition to the microfluidic device, the micro-spinbars could be widely used for a mixing system in a microwell plate for analyzing bio and chemical molecules. We believe that this technique can be easily extended to a variety of materials, including other hydrophobic monomers and polymers. |
