제목 Properties of modified PMMA microspheres for collagen immobilization
초록 Collagen is regarded as one of the most useful biomaterials. Its biological characters are biocompatibility, safety, biodegradability, and weak antigenecity. Collagen is a large insoluble protein with a characteristic triple helical structure and it is found as the most prominent component of extracellular matrix. PMMA has long been known as bone cement and has been used in cosmetic surgery with a very good safety record. PMMA microspheres are biologically inert and nondegradable. Modified PMMA microspheres carrying aldehyde groups on their surfaces were synthesized and used as the support for collagen immobilization. Modified PMMA microspheres were prepared by dispersion polymerization. After, collagen was immobilized in modified PMMA, the changes of this material are investigated.
