The polyurethanes are very versatile polymer materials and their properties can be modified either by varying polyurethane microstructure or by dispersing inorganic and organic fillers in polyurethane matrix. Although their good mechanical properties such as high abrasion resistance, tear strength, flexibility and elasticity, polyurethanes have some disadvantages, for example, thermal stability and barrier properties. Polyurethane/clay nanocomposites having high aspect ratio layered silicate can overcome these disadvantages. In this study, the properties of polyurethane/clay nanocomposites containing organoclay which was treated with polymeric surfactants were investigated by using DSC, NMR, TEM, XRD, NMR, and UTM. The d-spacing of intercalated polyurethane/clay nanocomposites was about 3nm from XRD, and TEM results; and their thermal properties were enhanced with introducing clay. |
