제목 | Structural Analysis of PAN Homo- and Copolymers Using Infrared Spectroscopy |
초록 | Generally fibers and films are drawn in order to improve their properties. Then polymer chains are oriented along drawing axis and microstructures are changed asymmetrically. This anisotropy can be analyzed by dichroism using infrared spectroscopy. The dichroism is an optical phenomenon in which sample shows different absorbances for light with plane polarization in two perpendicular directions. The dichroic studies of oriented polymers assist in determining the chain conformation and structure. Polyacrylonitrile is a well-known crystalline polymer. This crystallinity is due to a strong interaction of nitrile groups. Two kinds of films were made by dissolving PAN homopolymer powder and PAN copolymer powder in DMF and heated near Tg. Infrared dichroic ratios of PAN homopolymer films and PAN copolymer films was obtained as a function of drawing ratio. And they are correlated with the differences in structures of PAN homopolymers and copolymers. |
