제목 | Homopolymer/homopolymer blends with UCST and LCST |
초록 | The phase behavior of polymer blend has been long studied for last 40 years. Depending upon the interaction parameter, the blends have generally two kinds of the transitions: the upper critical solution temperature (UCST) above which two polymers are homogenous, and lower critical solution temperature (LCST) below which two polymers become homogenous. Although the existence of both transitions (UCST at lower temperatures and LCST at higher temperatures) is predicted theoretically, this phenomenon was not found for homopolymer A and homopolymer B, although blends of a homopolymer and solvent as well as a copolymer and a homopolymer exhibited both transitions. In this study, we show that certain polymer blends have both UCST and LCST. These transitions are measured by turbidity experiments, and the interaction parameter (χ) in temperatures between UCST and LCST was determined from small angle neutron scattering method. The minimum χ was found at near the half of temperature between UCST and LCST. This work was supported by Applied Rheology Center governed by KOSEF and by the Teralevel Nanodevices Projects by MOST.
